Meeting Information April 26/2022

Our meeting on the afternoon of April 26, was facilitated by Karen Rosenberg.

We enjoyed each other’s company for 2 hours with a discussion and writing together.

Discussion Highlights:

  • *Mark your calendar* There will be an in-person Canadian Retreat at Jericho House in late August of 2023.  We will also be trying to put this one zoom. Jericho House is currently holding retreats like this, so they will lend us expertise.
  • Write around the World, best one ever, going on now. If you haven’t joined to lead a session, check out the calendar to attend. It’s for a great cause.

What we do

AWA Canada is part of the Amhurst Writers and Artists which is an international community of writing workshop leaders committed to the belief that a writer is someone who writes & every writer has a unique voice. AWA workshops follow a proven method that affirms writers by building confidence, creating an atmosphere of equal exploration, and protecting confidentiality.

Through the AWA Training Program, AWA trains writers to uphold the AWA Method and become workshop leaders. These workshop leaders are certified to work with novice writers who have been led to believe they have no voice and with experienced writers who want to hone their craft. Training includes business practices as well as strategies for writing with those who have been traditionally not heard through poverty, discrimination, illness, age or other obstacles and achieves a powerful combination of language and confidence needed to overcome social barriers.

Writers who have used the AWA method have published major works and won top awards in the U.S., Canada and Ireland, and over fourteen hundred facilitators have completed the AWA Training Program in workshop leadership.

AWA supports AWA workshop leaders through the Affiliate Network, providing a presence on the AWA website, ongoing connections, and professional development.
